Best Handheld GPS for Geocaching – DeLorme Earthmate PN-40 Waterproof Hiking GPS

by William on February 12, 2011

The DeLorme Earthmate PN-40 Waterproof Hiking GPS is a smart handheld GPS. I say that because many of its features exceeded my expectations after comparing it with other GPS I’ve previously owned. Though you may be swayed by Garmin’s versatile offerings (like what I’ve said in Best Compact Handheld GPS) but don’t give DeLorme a pass that easily. You got to give it a try to know that this is a gadget that commands attention.

A few points I’d like to emphasize about this device:

1. Great for geocaching and boating because it provides accurate coordination

The coordination I got from this handheld GPS was really helpful. Even in particularly rough spots, I almost always managed to find the geocache. I have a friend who bought the same unit and he enjoys exploring the features very much

2. More than enough space for all your maps

The 500MB flash memory may come in handy if you are one who enjoys storing read maps. You can even expand the memory space later, using high capacity SD cars.

3. Bright screen for easy viewing

The screen is bright enough for easy viewing. If you’ve read my post on How to Buy the Best Handheld GPS, you’ll know why bright and clear screen is important.

Erik Wisniewski bought the DeLorme Earthmate PN-40 Waterproof Hiking GPS from Amazon for Geocaching and had this to say about the device:

“In summary, this unit fit my particular requirements quite well, and by reading other Amazon reviews, I was mentally prepared for the challenge of learning how to install maps. I love the unit and have discovered a wonderful new hobby.”

Regardless of whether you’re into geocaching for many years now or just beginning to explore this adventure, give DeLorme Earthmate PN-40 Waterproof Hiking GPS a try. Amazon is offering it at a reasonable deal. Check it out!
