Best Compact Handheld GPS – Garmin Etrex Legend GPS Receiver

by William on February 5, 2011

If you’ve been reading my other handheld GPS recommendations, by now you’ll realize that I like to recommend devices from Garmin because they offer some of the most versatile and functional handheld GPS. Likewise, the Garmin Etrex Legend GPS Receiver is the best compact-size, mid-range handheld GPS in market meant for easy navigation.

Garmin Etrex Legend GPS Receiver

Two essential handheld GPS features found in this model:

1. Handy for travel because of its tough exterior

Do you know that this GPS is good for both outdoor and car use? This mini gadget packs a punch as it scores well in terms of overall performance (map points, speed) and design. For a compact GPS, I’m pleasantly surprised that the screen isn’t hard to read at all.

2. 8MB memory is able to store plenty of saved tracks

Store maps, Point of Interests, and detailed street map info without worrying about the lack of storage space. Of course, this device may lack memory when compared to Best Handheld GPS For All Occasions which comes equipped with 64MB microSD slot; but 8MB is still better than most handheld GPS in the market!

However, it lacks barometric altitude and magnetic compass reading features.

I got to say though, the unavailability of barometric altitude and digital compass is a letdown. Perhaps Garmin will incorporate these features in their compact models in the future? I sure hope so.

“Smaug” Jeremy is a happy user. The following is a snippet of his review found in Amazon:

“Bottom line: if you have the dough, buy one of the higher-end Garmin for the reception and memory. If not, you will be very happy with this Legend as long as you realize its limitations.”

Limitations or otherwise, one thing’s for sure: you can be the proud owner of Garmin Etrex Legend GPS Receiver by buying it from Amazon today. Act quick before the deals are gone!
